The Turkish firm ATA is well known for the impressive range of shotguns they have been producing since 1973. The need to stay innovative and introduce new products, models and calibres obviously holds true for ATA as they have introduced the first Turkish bolt-action rifle – the Turqua. The test rifle featured here is chambered in .308 Winchester. The rifle is 114 cm (44,8”) long and weighs 3,4 kg (without telescope) unloaded. It is available in .308 Win, 6.5 CRM and .243 Win. It has an attractive Turkish walnut stock with laser-cut checkering and sling swivel attachment points fore and aft. The stock is oiled – a nice touch as so many manufacturers currently varnish their stocks. The finish is an attractive satin feel, that I like. The synthetic cheek riser is height adjustable by up to 24,6 mm in increments of about 2 mm to cater for different shooters’ physique and scope mount height. Simply depress the flush-fitting button on the right-hand side of the stock and slide the cheek riser up and down as required. Once locked into position, it fits tightly and does not rattle or have any movement. A solid rubber recoil pad rounds it off. FRANCOIS VAN EMMENES
